Marie José Brizard, R.N., B.A. Faculté des Science Humaines, Consultant, Co-Parenting Educator, Coach, and Mediator is director of Parenting Through Transition LLC. Marie José’s practice focuses on conflict ridden co-parenting and custody disputes involving High Conflict behaviors, Intimate Partner Violence/Abuse, Coercive Control, Harassment, Substance Abuse and, allegations of Alienation/Gatekeeping. She brings more then 25 years of experience as an educator and provider of care to individuals and families. She primarily serves parents who face relentless adversity.
No matter how distressing the issues, her clients leave the consulting session or class feeling understood, relieved, more skilled and optimistic.
Marie José’s approach is informed by research and literature in education, psychological and social science, Minnesota statutes, along with the principles of ethics and standards of practice. She provides workshops to professionals on coercive control and screening for domestic abuse.
Marie José attends the annual Family Law Institute, the annual National AFCC Conference and local AFCC conferences, numerous trainings, lectures and webinars. She is a trained Community and Family Mediator (Qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice). She is a trained coach in High Conflict Communications using the “B.I.F.F.” response℠, the “Empathy, Attention and Respect (EAR)” techniques and the New Ways For Families Decision Skills Training as developed by Bill Eddy Esq and LCSW co-founder of the High Conflict Institute. She volunteers in Harassment Court at Hennepin County, and at the Conflict Resolution Center as a mediator and, at Tubman as a facilitator of the Domestic Abuse Support Group and at the Legal Clinic. She is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and the AFCC-MN Education Committee.
